In the spring of 1990 Princess Diana enjoyed a relaxing Caribbean beach holiday with her children William and Harry. But the royals weren’t alone — paparazzi followed them to the gorgeous island as well. And this media intrusion resulted in photos that gave the public an unparalleled view of the late princess’ unconventional parenting style. To say it was unique would be an understatement!
A mother under the spotlight
Diana’s love for her children could never be questioned. It was always clear that she absolutely adored the two princes. Yet unlike most mothers on the planet, she also had incredible pressures to deal with outside of that role. After all, Diana was the Princess of Wales and a future Queen consort. The spotlight was constantly on her once she joined the British royal family.
Breaking the mold
Mind you, regardless of her lofty position, Diana didn’t allow it to affect her relationship with William and Harry. She wanted things to be as “normal” as possible. A bold decision
Yes, when Diana was pregnant with William, it was expected that the delivery would take place at her royal residence. That was the protocol at the time. Yet the princess had other ideas. She insisted on going to London’s St. Mary’s Hospital to welcome her son into the world. And the famous mom did the same thing again with Harry.
